Writing Contest!

Writing Contest!

We have a new section coming up in our Newsletter each month! This will be a writing competition that will be voted on by the members of Boolprop with the winner's story featured in the Newsletter! So get those writing tools ready, crack those fingers, and let's get pen to paper and start creating!

Here are the details:

What happens if my story gets chosen the winner?
-Your story gets posted in the newsletter.
-You'll be interviewed about yourself (your history of playing Sims/Boolprop stuff) and your story.
-You will receive the Story of the Month medal: Image.

How do I make my story eligible for a feature?
-Post your piece in the submission thread for the upcoming newsletter. September's submission thread can be found here!
-3000 word MAX!
-Yup, that's it!
-Once you have submitted your story, your house gets 30 points!
-The winner will receive an additional 30 points for their house.
-The deadline for August will be the 21st. Then a poll will be created for the members to vote on.

What does the timing look like on this?
-If you get selected, please try to have your interview in by the 4th of September before the newsletter is posted. Interviews can still be edited in after the feature is posted, if desired.
-Extra features may be added for special events/holidays!

So, good luck on having your story chosen! And, of course, please try to go and read stories that are submitted!!! Happy Simming!

Can the story be sims related? Do we submit the stories here or do we note you? Is there a word limit? Is it free genre? Gosh I have a lot of questions :B

Mauricette, I'm not 100% certain of the answers to your other questions, but the word limit is 3000 max. :)

Poetry should be fine! Deanna's original idea called for poetry-only, but we decided to open it up to all kinds of fiction, so that all types of writers can submit their work.

Also, since this thread seems to be generating some chat/questions, I've opened a separate thread for submitting entries here to keep things tidy & easy to read. :)

Any entries posted here will be moved to the appropriate thread.

Quick question. May the piece be a modified version of a piece that was already written or does it have to be brand new work?

I feel like there is no way to really tell if its a piece you once wrote and modified, except for future entries.

I just wanted to be sure. My personality is one that feels guilt over almost everything so, I just was wondering. I have piece from a few years ago that would work really well if modified. Thanks a bunch!

It can be a story or poem, any genre, and it doesn't have to be about sims. It can be anything you are inspired to write. Anything written can be submitted for this contest. BUT each month's submission must be original and cannot be a repeat of another entry submitted for this contest. I hope that answers the majority of the questions so far? :D

It's probably too late, but is there anyway to rescind my piece and remove my name from the voting? I don't feel comfortable doing it anymore and I feel like I made a mistake submitting my piece. I'm sorry to bother and it is fine if you can't. I just was wondering. The other pieces are wonderful and at any other time I would be glad to submit. Again, if you can't, it's fine. Sorry.

No problem! Would you like your entry to be deleted entirely, or just removed from the voting?

Edit: So I was able to remove it from the poll... and it reset the results. Oops... :shifty: Sorry to the 4 people that already voted! I'm afraid you're going to have to recast your votes.

Don't blame yourself, it's completely my fault! I probably should have created a test poll before messing around with the official one... Thankfully, there were only 4 votes, not a huge loss, just a minor inconvenience. I'll do my best to make sure those who have already voted know that they need to revote. :)

I'll leave your original submission up for now, unless you decide you want it gone for sure.

Reading September's stories sparked the interest in me to write my own, but that'll have to wait until next month I guess :D I already have most of the "plot" figured out.

I assume lyrics will also qualify? I sometimes try to make up my own lyrics to existing melodies (mostly in French though, lol) and it would be fun to enter some of the things I've come up with.

I have a dialogue excerpt lying around somewhere, should probably go find the notebook. It was actually for an OWBC I was intending to start up but didn't get around to, the whole thing was written on paper (oh how creative one can be while listening to a lecture at a summer camp).

Lyrics are fine as long as they're your own! :)

Could someone please further explain "incorporate the essence of the holiday"?

As it is a Halloween theme, the essence of the holiday would to make it a scary story, or one about "typical" Halloween characters, such as zombies, witches, monsters, vampires, ghosts, etc. Does that clear it up?
