Genetic Roulette Challenge

GENETIC ROULETTE

For the 14th Birthday we have a new Sims Challenge ... Genetic Roulette

This is more a game of chance rather than a challenge, but then again having 14 children can be pretty challenging!!

Why 14 children ... because we are celebrating Boolprops 14th Birthday.

This is a point collecting game, and the points you earn all depends on what your family genetics throw up.

Image

You are from a very colourful family - the last three generations bringing in a new and different colour to your family genetics - your history.
Your sim could have been born with any one of the four colours from your family line, but no, by some quirk of nature they were born completely white!!
However, that doesn't end your family line, it carries on! White makes five colours in your family genes and your sims spouse brings in a 6th different colour.

So how are their 14 children going to turn out ... there are a rainbow of colours that could come out in their genes!!
You will earn a range of varied points for each different hair and eye colour that comes out in the children ... depending on what genetics come out.

We are ignoring skin colour in this challenge ... as skin colour becomes redundant after each generation because the children only inherit their parents skin tone.
We are only concentrating on HAIR and EYE colouring ONLY ... so Sims 2 people, you can play this challenge too!!!

Image
SET UP
Set up will take a while unfortunately but it is necessary to do this challenge.
The colours I am using for each generation are only an example - you can chose your own colours.

1. So to start this challenge, we need to create 4 Generations of family sims in CAS!
Example Color Configuration:
[Generation A] Create two elderly sims in CAS. A male (RED hair and eyes) and a female (YELLOW hair and eyes). These two will be used genetically to make:
[Generation B] A mature adult child (ideally taking on either YELLOW or RED hair and eyes). Make them a spouse of a different colour (like, GREEN hair and eyes). These two will be used to genetically make:
[Generation C] A young adult child (with GREEN hair and eyes ). Make them a spouse of a different colour (like, PINK hair and eyes). The combination of these two will lead to:
[Founding Generation] A teenage child (This sim you change and give them WHITE hair and eyes). Make them a future spouse of a different colour (BROWN hair and eyes). This will be your OFFICIAL starting couple!
*The ages are done in this way to accommodate TS4 family tree specifications.

2. Once created, move your family of 8 sims onto any empty lot of any size
3. Upon entering the lot, the teenage couple can be aged up to young adults.
4. The Generation 1 - 2 and 3 sims can now all be killed off and their graves kept on the lot.
5. This leaves the White and Brown (when following the above example) sims on the lot to start your challenge!
>>>Now is a good time to save a copy of your sims and the family graves - you never know you might want to try this challenge again to get yourself a better points score!!
6. The last thing you need to do is build them a home with the starting money that they have.

Now you are finally ready to play .....!

PLAYING THE GAME & A FEW RULES

Your couple need to get it together, because they have 14 children to create!
It doesn't matter how you play their life, as long as they have a life outside of baby making and raising a family of 14 children.

Goals
- Your couple must have 14 children and raise them to young adult.
- Name your children using a theme or same letter.
- The parents both have to aim to achieve their Lifetime wish or Aspiration.

Rules
- Only one parent can get outside employment. The other parent has a stay at home to look after the children, but they can contribute to the family income by writing, painting, gardening, etc.
- TS4 Story Mode CANNOT be used to create sims, as that give an unfair money advantage!
- Life extenders and occults are allowed. They might struggle to create their 14 children, before becoming elderly, otherwise.
- All the children must have the same two parents to be countable. Any "Affair" / plant / adopted / alien babies do not count as one of your 14.
- Randomly roll all of the childrens traits.
- Multiple births count, and lucky you, you don't have so many pregnancies to endure. However you do incur a points loss for each multiple birth you have.
- No money cheats
- No mod use. Once game play starts, mods can only be used to fix glitches. (You may use mods to ensure the family tree stays intact for all of the genetics to play into the birth of the children, though)
- No using birthday cakes or early aging up. The children must age up naturally in the game. TS4 may use birthday cakes but only on Day 0 of aging up!
- Toddlers need to be taught their skills and potty trained, This means up to level 3 for TS4 toddler skills.
- No boarding school.
- If a child dies, they must be replaced. Each childs genetic colour points only come into play when they become a young adult.
- Once a child has become an adult, they must leave the house.

The challenge ends when the 14th child becomes a young adult, or earlier if either of the parents die.
Image
POINTS

Each child born will earn two sets of points when they become a young adult.
Points for their eye colour + points for their hair colour.

The colours are scored by which generation they appeared in last and not by the generation they started.

FOUNDER colours = (White & Brown) = 5 points
GEN C colours = (Green & Pink ) = 10 points
GEN B colours = (Yellow) = 25 points
GEN A colours = (Red) = 50 points
Game default colours = 0 points!!

- TS2 and TS3 - A parent's Lifetime Wish/Aspiration achieved +30
-TS4 - A parents Aspirations achieved +10 each

- A parent's Lifetime Wish/Aspirtion not achieved -20
- The death of a child -10
- The death of a parent, which ends the challenge prematurely -20
- A child removed by a social worker -10 each
- Multiple birth -10

Image

...and of course you earn yourself the Genetic Roulette medal Image for completing this challenge!!

Image

This challenge has been created for the 14th birthday, and at the moment the challenge is pretty basic, and all about the genetics points game.
This keeps it within the birthday theme of Games!!

Next year this challenge will be expanded to create a better and more challenging challenge.

FYI for anyone looking to do this challenges in TS4 (as I am!), "unnatural" hair colors like pink and green aren't passed down genetically (not sure about white). I'm not sure about eye colors. I think it's still possible to do, might just have to use more than one shade of red/brown/yellow. Will update later when I've had a go at it in CAS!

The eye colors are passed down, as I found out with my attempt at a perfect genetics challenge. The only way to get the hair colors to pass down is to have CC hairstyles.

Same as in TS2 I think (the base colours are passed on). And the set up is not possible in CAS sims. Been playing around with for awhile. I had set a couple up, use the baby make for the elders, teenagers, and children. Then put them in a house age up the couple/elder as to die at 6. Aged the teenagers up to elders, and the children, to adults, remove family ties and their are now my couple. :) Restarted this again (for about the fifth time)

This looks fun! The set up will have to be different in TS2 since we can't make young adult sims in CAS unless you're playing in a college, but I could at least set up the first three generations, make the third have a baby, and then just cheats to age them up and start playing. Let's be honest, I'll probably do this later today.

The age specification are more for sims 3 and 4, as you can not set sims as parent and child if they are the same age.

That is just an example for setting up ... HOWEVER you can create your sims for this challenge will work, as long as the eye and hair colours are all different in the family tree!!

I have a question. Do we have to use the colors listed, or can we use different hair and eye colors, as long as each sim has a different hair and eye color? I'm just trying to figure out which game I'll use for this.

I kind of meant like Sarah's idea of using different shades of blonde/red/brown.
[mod="itsjulie"]you can use your own colours .... that was just an example for you to follow
especially so you could see how to score your colours.[/mod]

I assuming the no mod rule doesn't extend to allowing same sex couples to have kids? Mostly to stuff like overstuffing the house and such. It's probably a really stupid question, but I wanted to make sure.

Also, If playing in TS3, going into the family tree with the parameters laid out in the rules(Elder to Adult to Young Adult to Teen) doesn't work. I'm currently sitting with CAS open with an elder pair, an adult pair, a young adult pair, and teen descendant. The YA and Adult sit at the same tier and can't be parent/child. Any recommendations on how to proceed? I'm not sure where to go. Sorry for being a pain and if I'm not understanding, I'm also sorry.

[mod="itsjulie"]If you have the MC mod you can connect them together when you drop them onto the lot - that should work for you and how I ended up doing it.[/mod]

Question: If a parent completes more than one aspiration, is it 10 points for each one or only the first?

mmmm I need to think about that one!!
Im not too familiar with sims 4 and I thought the Aspirations were like sims 3 Lifetime wishes and there was only one.
I would say 10 points for each one .... as long as our points score charts are kept seperate for each game version, but that is up to Blams who deals with the scores, so I will check with her.

So how many Aspirations can they do?????

in answer to Sarah's question .....

[mod="itsjulie"]The point scores have been adjusted.
- TS2 and TS3 - A parent's Lifetime Wish/Aspiration achieved +30
-TS4 - A parents Aspirations achieved +10 each[/mod]

Sims 4 parents can do more than one aspirations - we have leveled out the points to make it fairer.
TS2/3 only get the one LTW but TS4 can do them all in theory.

" Only one parent can get outside employment. I was thinking maybe after the other parent has completed their ltw that parent can stay home and the other parent can go out to work is that ok.
