Dark Days, Chapter 7

Post by Strawberry »

Spoiler:
Image
With so much excitement about the new baby Moonshine was left to his own devices. Oh, he went to
work and made money and contributed to the household perfectly well.

Image
But Kendra was starting to worry about the beasts mental health. She hadn't had the time to spend
with him as much as she'd like and she didn't want him to get bored.

Image
I asked around the community building for suggestions on how to keep a cat entertained and my
colleagues suggested play mice. We managed to scrounge up a few for him.

Image
Moonshine took a liking to them, playing with them often while at home. They seemed to take up his
time nicely and keep him from jacking up my stuff.

Image
However, after a while Kendra and I noticed some strange behavior from him and we thought it best
to limit his play to every once in a while instead of all the time.

Image
Kendra was able to snag work at the community center in the education bracket after our boy was
spawned. I told her I'd care for our child while she went to work. A thought that seemed to worry her
quite a bit.

Image
But she was looking forward to starting her new job so much that she took a leap of faith in my
parenting skills. She wanted out of the house.

Image
And she was eager to become acquainted with her neighbors and their children. She wanted to
provide structure and order to our otherwise structure-less new society.

Image
Now that Moonshine had entertainment for himself on the home front it was easier for him to go to
work in a brighter mood. This improved the quality of his shows and he was soon promoted.

Image
Unfortunately there's a bit of bad luck with the good. A wave of zombies infiltrated the community
building and took out a fair amount of the community. Kendra was crushed.

Image
It was a huge loss to Strangetown. We lost a lot of good people. Kendra spent a lot of time alone for
a while after that.

Image
This was a portion in her life when she relied heavily on the non-verbal bond she shared with that
insufferable cat.
Thank you guys for your consistent and encouraging comments! Only a couple more days til the end of Simnano! :plumbob:

Spoiler:
She may not think much of the cat, but it's good for Kendra to have Moonshine. Moonshine is a good kitty it seems, overall. Just needed some additional stimulus. Those darn zombie hoards really do make life difficult.
You've done a great job with the story! Thanks for writing and sharing it with us!

Dark Days, Chapter 8

Post by Strawberry »

Spoiler:
Image
Kendra was quickly getting used to her career and having time to spend with her handsome boy,
Moonshine. After the initial incident she was worried she wouldn't have a place to work anymore, but
the community really pulled together to rebuild the center and the school room opened up again.

Image
Recess was spent with Moonshine who brought joy to all the kids with his newly learned tricks and
playful attitude. Afterwords he would give comfort to the elderly, allowing them to pet him and hold
him.

Image
Each night they came home exhausted, but happy and their presence really added a quality of life
aspect that seemed to be missing before. The influx of college students from La Fiesta Tech brought
so much hope to Strangetown.

Image
And with the food cache keeping everyone fed I was able to care for Thelnixoe full time. His little
body was a marvel, with all it's moving parts. Most of the time I just stared at him in wonder.

Image
I was determined to learn how to be a parent. And if possible, a good parent. The process was
completely alien to me. Very few of us chose to produce spawn as the process was very taxing on our
bodies. It made us age faster than others.

Image
But holding his little body in my arms and seeing that the process here on Earth was so different,
Queens really had an important role in their clutch's life.

Image
It was clear bearing spawn wasn't just a biological imperative one could suppress if they chose. It
could be joyful and bring one an immense sense of accomplishment.

Image
I knew when I married Kendra I wanted to be the one to carry our children. But making that kind of
commitment and hastening my own demise seemed so scary until we had Thelnixoe.

Image
It took a long time for me to explain to her exactly what the process would do to me if I did have
children. It took even longer to convince her to go through with it.

Image
Bearing children didn't diminish her longevity as a human, she didn't see why she couldn't continue
having our children. But I knew if she did continue she'd have to deal with pregnancy and her career.

Image
I'd already had a successful career, I was already devoting my time to Thelnixoe. I wanted a happy
meaningful life with Kendra, not a longer one. I was eager to do this with her. I was eager to build a
family with her.

Image
It took a great deal of convincing, but she finally came around and agreed to stay focused on her
career, which brought her a lot of happiness and let me raise our brood.

(By the way, I know I was supposed to only have one have the kids. I had Kendra clicked when I meant
to have Neso clicked. That's why the payoff to the mob was so big. :awesome: )

Thanks, everyone!
I'm a little burnt out on writing after SimNano. I really just want to play for plays sake ^-^;
Updates will continue, of course, but I'm also excited about continuing the Bella Noir story, too.
Let's say I'll pick this up again in September! :D
