As Far As the World Goes

Ever since I started playing the game in 2009, I've been inventing stories about my Sims, like many players. Those stories were written at a second stage, primarily for myself and in French since that is my mother tongue. I switched the writing to English a few months later, hoping to make the story available to a larger readership. I used very few screenshots back then, and the plot revolved mostly around filling in the gaps left by Story Progression... Let's just say that I'm not too fond of my beginnings, there was no red thread to speak of. With time, my style evolved to dialogues only, then to a full graphic novel style.
I'm heavily influenced by manga and Japanese culture. And by this I mean that I try to make my stories very visual, and that I leave the interpretation of my characters' emotions to the reader. There are lots of meaningful silences in AFATWG.

So what is that story about? It started out as the story of a whole town, jumping from one household to another. Some have fairly normal lives. Others got caught up in bigger schemes. Many things are interconnected in AFATWG. There are inevitable references to the game's inner workings (like aging up for instance :)), or allusions to legacies in some families, as most characters are descendants from previous characters. But I don't follow any particular legacy rules.
The main story though, is about the Golzines, the local mob family. Most storylines are connected to them in some way or another, they are the ones pulling the strings in the city.

Just know this: there is drama a-plenty, with a pinch of comedy, there are heaps of romance (like forbidden love stories because that's my jam), there is action with guns and knives, a sprinkle of supernatural, and above all, there are morally grey characters that I try to make three-dimensional as best as I can. And very occasional nsfw.
And now, with the next part, To the Edge of Time, there is also science-fiction.

There is no need for you to read the story from the beginning! The easiest way to catch up would be to read the summaries from Part 1 to 4, then move on to Part 5. :)

I also make character videos on the AFATWG Youtube channel. ;) Latest video trailer is right here (Fifth Part).

I'd be happy to answer any question, and even happier if you leave me a comment! Hope you'll enjoy reading AFATWG as much as I enjoy writing it. :)

No one has anything to say? :(
I'm open to any comments, even negative ones, as long as it's constructive! All I want is to improve and know better what you guys like!

I'm updating the story 1 to 4 times a week, so it's actually difficult to post updates on forums too.
This update was posted on Monday. This week I'm quite busy with RL, so there might not be more before the week-end at least.
But please do check out the blog! It might seem confusing, but I've tried to create plenty of summaries/guides/lists of various kinds to help you through it.

And if you're lost, just call me. :)

Hi! Didn't know you were here too! :D

I adore this story to bits! It's incredibly unique, with its comic book feel, and with also how varied the characters and story are. It's clear how much effort you put into this thing and its greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing your lovely story with us! :)

@Fluffymao: Thank you!! I'm only seeing this now (2 years later, geez...) but if you're see this someday, well... your post made me very happy!

I was looking to update this thread since I've moved to a secondary blog but I see it's been moved to the Story Graveyard. ^^; How should I report this? I'm still alive, and the blog as well. :p

You just need to PM a mod (i.e.: Livvielove) to let them know it's still active. They'll move it back.

It most likely got moved as nothing was ever posted here to show sign of life.

Glad you're back to post here! I figured you were still updating it, but wasn't sure if you'd return to Boolprop to do so. Welcome back!

Edit to add: Yes, it looks like you got caught up in the last purge we did. It was a recent thing where we moved all stories that hadn't been commented on in over 2 years. Either way, should something like this happen feel free to PM me or another mod!

Don't sweat it about not posting, this isn't a regular thing at all! I did a forum reduction recently and as we reduced the number of subforms I simply put anything that had a last comment date older than 2 years in the graveyard with the caveat that it could be brought back at any time by just messaging me! It was literally the first time we'd done that in years so you just happened to come back RIGHT after we did it! :haha: Either way I'm glad I saw this, and I'm sorry it took me a few days to move it back! I'm usually more vigilant.

The last thing I'd want to give you is the impression that you HAVE to post. It's awesome if you do, though! I hope to see you around the forum, and if you have any further questions feel free to send me a PM!

No worries, I should've tried to keep my own thread alive.
And I know how frustrating it can be when people only post to showcase their work without actually participating, so I fully understand if you'd have wanted me to post more.

Ok, so for anyone who would be interested, I recently published a series of updates in 4 parts (because it would've been a rather long update otherwise, and then splitting it somehow reinforces the idea that time passes slowly for the characters, which is what I wanted to achieve).

Time Suspended (1)
Time Suspended (2)
Time Suspended (3)
Time Suspended (4)

To put you in context: Sam and Ash have been accidentally sent to the future AND on another planet. They have been taken in by the Solarian militaries who are supposed to escort them back to Earth (or at least, Luna), but they have to wait until the weather conditions allow for a safe departure.
Thing is... Sam and Ash have exchanged gender during their trip to the future. And they have their own history... But to know what exactly happened between them, you'd have to read As Far As the World Goes. ;-)

I could make some quick presentations for the main AFATWG characters if that would help. Reading the whole thing can be a pain, especially because it takes a long time to get interesting.

I say make them only if you want to, but don't ever sell your story short! It's very good. My French is very poor right now (I've been studying vigilantly for 2 months but have intents to keep following it through due to moving in the next few years), but your story motivates me to one day be able to read it and appreciate it fully in French.

Your summaries are good, your writing is good, and it's worthwhile to read through all of it. :)

Thanks for that. :)

In all objectivity, I really wouldn't say that the French part is the best one. It is thankfully quite short (comparatively... I only wrote in French until #152 and I'm currently at #749). That's why I recommend people to catch up with the summaries, although even so, the plot is twisted and there are lots of characters.
Since I started the graphic novel style as from #635, the story has been really picking up. :) There is really no need for readers to suffer through the beginnings, I would honestly prefer people to see what I'm capable of now instead of going back to my earlier fumbling.
When looking at my stats, I see that people almost always never make it through the first summary, and I fully understand that it's very long and that time is limited for everyone (that, and TS3 is no longer in fashion...). But I just don't know what more I can do to simplify things for potential readers. :/ That's why I suggested the character presentations. You'd only need a few of them to be able to follow the story now.

Anyway, enough rambling! So cool that you would learn such a difficult language as French! That's really impressive!

I posted a Christmas Special last week. :)

It is actually a flash back that takes place between #726 and #727, in the 5 years interval between those two updates. It felt so nice playing with my old cast again!
