Having to get myself all caught up! I hadn't realized I had missed so much!
Spoiler:
So the baby was Brandi's! Not sure why I didn't think of that.

Woah, Dina killed Darlene?? That's quite the plot twist. I think I'm understanding why Michael might have done what he did to Dina, even though it's still horrible.
It's totally understandable you would take a break! Great job with this so far though. I've loved it!

Bella Noir
Season 1, Episode 26 Dina Exposed
Spoiler:

Image
I leaned back in my chair to take it all in while Coral showed Brandi and Beau out and made another
phone call. It was hard to believe Dina killed Darleen. She'd be getting the money from Michaels death
soon I imagined. Maybe she killed him for the money. But if she was going to kill him why kill Darleen,
too? And what about Skip?

Image
Coral asked that we move outside while they sun set to revel in the autumn breeze and I obliged.
"Dina and her sister will be joining us soon," she informed me, "I imagine you have questions for her."
I nodded but acquiesced to letting Coral enjoy her autumn afternoon while I thought things over.

Image
At first I thought she lashed out at my Jennifer out of fear but it appeared now she had something to
hide. As it happened it didn't take long for the Caliente sisters to arrive. We exchanged awkward
pleasantries and took our seats on Coral's trellis benches.
"Some things have come to light, Dina," I started sternly. She smiled stupidly and I felt my shoulders
tense.

Image
Coral must have sensed my ire and took over. She said sympathetically "About Michael and Darleen."
Fear filled Dina's eyes, "I don't know why it wouldn't be found out." Nina held her sisters hand.
"He tried to…." Coral paused, considering the right way to phrase it.
"He tried to leave me for her," Dina said glumly.

Image
"She was a problem," Coral said gently.
Dina scoffed, "It was hell. Hell, living in her shadow. She was perfect. He was always comparing her to
me and I always fell short."
"She had to go," Coral prompted.
Dina's face grew dark, "She had no idea who I was. It was easy. I just latched the shed door behind her
and lit a match."
Nina's face morphed from one of concern to one of shock and horror.

Image
"And with her gone," Coral continued.
"With her gone I thought it would stop. I thought he'd come back to me and we'd be a family. Maybe
not the best family. Probably a terrible one."
"But that's not what happened," Coral went on.
"He moved us out here... Why? Why would he do that?! We had no reason to come back here!" Dina
clenched her fists.
"He had unfinished business," Coral posited.
"You mean Skip?" Dina asked.

Image
My ears perked.
"Tell us what happened," Coral said. Not angrily, not forcefully. She said it calmly, again with
compassion and an open mind.
Dina took a deep breath to calm herself before beginning, "One night... Michael left the house. He
was gone for a long time. When he came back he was all wet. I learned early on not to ask a lot of
questions. And he just went to bed. Later on Bella came to the house. She told me not to wake him
up and we went outside. She said Michael drowned him in the pond the night she was going to give
him some money and she needed my help pulling him out and dragging him across the street to the
pool."

Image
"So he could be found sooner?" Coral asked.
Dina nodded, "She said he needed to pay for all the hurt he'd done. To her and to me. He needed to go
to jail and never come out."
"And you helped her?" I asked.
"I... I don't know why I did it. I was so scared. He'd know it was her. He knew she was going to meet
Skip that night. He'd come after her," she cried.

Image
"But she wasn't afraid?" Coral asked.
"I don't know, I don't think so. I told her to leave town. To take the money she was going to give Skip
and go somewhere he'd never find her." Dina explained.
"And she took your advice." Coral surmised.
"She left that night," Dina nodded.

Image
"Was Michael ever charged with Skip's death?" I followed.
"No! No one asked any questions! No one said anything! He'd gotten away with it!" she shook her head.
With so many questions answered it was time for the final one and I went for it.
"Dina... did you kill your husband?" I asked.

Well, that was certainly quite the story. Poor Dina, poor Darlene. Michael was certainly not a good guy. Did Dina really kill him, or was it maybe someone else? Great job!

Bella Noir
Season 1, Episode 27 "I Killed Him"
Spoiler:
Image
"I killed him," Nina said softly.
"Nina, no. It was me," Dina put up her hands. Nina gently took them. They shared a pained expression.
"He was ruining Dina's life," Nina continued, "He was killing her. I... I didn't want to make him pay. I
didn't kill him out of revenge. I just wanted him gone. I wanted my sister back. I wanted our lives back.
She still had hopes things could work out with him. Even after everything he'd taken from her."

Image
"Couldn't you..." I started.
"Just take her and run?" she finished my question, "He'd find her. And Dina was still his wife.
According to the law, he had a right to her. So... I poisoned him. Dina called the police before she
knew what I'd done. The doctor would know it was cyanide."
"I went to see Herb- sorry," Dina gave Coral a nod of respect, "Doctor Oldman, and tried to tell him
what had happened. He didn't need to hear much to be convinced. He reported that Michael died of
cardiac arrest. Which, I believe, is technically correct."

Image
"You didn't have to do that for me," Nina hugged her sister. Dina let out a small chuckle, "I could say
the same thing." She turned to me, "I'm ready to pay for the death of Darleen Dreamer. I was
transferring the anger I felt of being mistreated by Michael on her. I took it out on her. And that's
unacceptable. I ruined a family and I need to take responsibility for it."

Image
Coral sent the sisters home and poured me a cup of coffee. According to the law, that was that. Simple.
No one would take into account what Michael had done to her. What kind of mental state she must
have been in. Or Nina for trying to save her. Murder's murder.
I suddenly scoffed. Considering the state of law enforcement in this town no wonder nothing had been
handled properly. Who knows what others had gotten away with. That was why Coral never bothered
to come forward with her information in the first place.

Image
And what could I do. I wasn't a cop anymore, technically. Bringing murders to light would expose Skip
and Darleen for their crimes and pull their families into scandal. Quite frankly I think Mrs Broke and
Mr Dreamer had been through enough.
I wasn't being paid to find out who killed anyone, I was being paid to find out what happened to Bella
Goth. But I couldn't do nothing. Dina couldn't stay in Pleasantview. And I couldn't send her away
knowing what she'd done.

Spoiler:
So both sisters ended up killing someone.

I like how everything's not so straightforward or black and white. Like you said no one would take into account the circumstances.

I'm not sure what John's next move here will be, but at least he's solved a lot of the mystery already.

Spoiler:
Everyone has their secrets. It's nice that it isn't all super straight forward, and he's right....at this point, outside the sisters, most everyone would only be hurt more by revealing anything that happened. So the mystery, at least, is pretty much solved. It's was a tangled web indeed.

Bella Noire
Season 1, Episode 28 The End
Spoiler:

Image
I'd spent the whole afternoon thinking about what to do. How to handle the case. Struggling with my
ethics. Until I found myself standing in front of the Caliente Sister's house at sunset. I walked up the
front steps and knocked on the door. It was opened quietly by Nina. She let me in and showed me to
their sitting room and offered me a seat, which I took. Nina fetched Dina and they both joined me.
"What have you decided?" Nina asked.

Image
"I haven't decided anything," I answered honestly to my surprise, "I believe you both were in impossible
situations. But it wouldn't be right just let you go. Putting you through the justice system in this place
doesn't feel adequate in the slightest, and making public what you did would hurt Mr Dreamer a great
deal. Not sure I could say the same about Mrs Broke, but I think she's got enough to deal with already."

Image
"Telling Darren what I did to his wife," Dina stared out blankly, "I've struggled with it for so long. It
always seemed like I'd be doing it for me instead of for him."
I shook my head thinking of it, "It would be easier if you both killed Michael. It would keep Mr Dreamer
out of it."
Dina and Nina shared looks with each other.

Image
"We... could confess to killing him. Even if it was just Nina," Dina started.
"You did try to take credit for killing him at Mrs Oldies," Nina said sadly.
"You mean, say that you both killed Michael and leave Mrs Dreamer out of it?" I asked.
The sisters nodded. I thought about their proposal. After we went through a few details I agreed to
go along with it.
Epilogue
Spoiler:

Image
I escorted the Caliente sisters to the police station. They turned theirselves in just as they said they
would, for the murder of Michael Bachelor. News spread fast through town and had reached Ms. Goth
before I had a chance to speak with her. She wanted answers, to know if they had anything to do
with her mother's disappearance. I saw no reason to lie to her specifically about what happened the
night Skip Broke was murdered, so I didn't. She seemed relieved, at least, to know that her mother
was alive after all.

Image
I wasn't sure whether or not to tell her about her fiance, Mr. Lothario, so a the time I didn't say
anything. I was glad to be done with the whole business. Glad to have helped, in some way, a new
neighbor, but largely to get out of everyone's business, finally.
Jennifer was sad to hear about Nina, however, she had news of her own when I got home.
"If it's another case I vote we flee during the night," I teased.
"No, nothing so dramatic," she assured me.
"What then?" My curiosity getting the better of me.
"Well, dear, you know how you always said that Lucy should have a little brother or sister?"
- Yay! I finally finished! I'm sorry it took so long for the last show to drop, but I think the ending came out the better for it. Thank you all so much again for your support, and especially, patience towards the end! I had so much fun writing this, I just didn't want it to end. XD
