Finally got a chance to read this, and really enjoyed it!
Love the idea of the founder as a goddess who's given up godhood! Definitely better than the more common trope of founders being forced into it by her creator. Of course, It's Good to Be the Queen, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Love the royal family, with the heir who's quiet and seems rather uncertain. It'll be interesting to see how she does once she's queen.

Imelda's definitely a trip. Good thing she got to move in first, when there was a quick path to the nobility. Like many other commentors, I do feel sorry for Shannath, though. It's going to be very interesting if she ends up wanting to marry Darion.

I love how Dienda just sort of seems to stumble through life by accident.

I read the entire thing and I loved it! It really made me want to do a BARKC with your rules.

I hope Shannath gets a good life when her mother is done. I feel so bad for her and want to let her be happy.

I love everyone in this neighbourhood and can't wait to see more!

My big question, with the rules, if you don't mind, is 'the peasant household must buy out all of an existing merchant family’s holdings' or 'the merchant household must overtake the poorest noble house by 33% of their net worth and buy out all but one of the house’s holdings.' What does this mean and how do you plan to implement it? I absolutely don't mind following along at all, but I'm so curious about it!

Hey everybody! Thank you so much for the kind words, and sorry for the sudden inactivity burst! I'm working on getting the next chapter primed and ready to go out, hopefully within the next week, if life doesn't intervene! :)

Thank you so much!!

In regards to the rules question, my thought process was that if a family wants to take over another family's slot in the next class up, they need to prove that they're a better merchant/noble than the other guys. So, they need to be able to purchase what makes that family a merchant/noble: their owned businesses. In my mind, that meant the family saving up enough money to cover how much the business costs, and then transferring ownership of the business, probably using cheats or Monique's Computer or some such to move the funds around appropriately. :) As far as overtaking the poorest noble house by 33% of their net worth, I just meant the merchant family being 1/3 richer than the poorest noble house, in comparing the two families' net worth. Sorry that didn't make sense, and let me know if you have any other questions!

I was reading this again, recently (because I wanted to check some details - no spoilers!), and thought to myself, "Hmmmm, my modern sims have it way too easy. Maybe I should do a brand new BACC, following all the rules and letting them build up from nothing, and I have all that medieval stuff, so it can be really... WHAT AM I THINKING?! I can't start ANOTHER challenge! Not right now!"

Still, it's awfully tempting. There's just something about the challenge, you know? And with my Royal Court, my sims really do have it too easy. So...

You've inspired me. :diablo:

Thanks, Michelle! :)

It's been a long time in coming, but I've finally put out the next chapter for Clitheroe! And you can read it right here! :D

Oh, I rarely catch my pop-up alerts, but I'm so glad I saw this one!

OK, carpal tunnel again, so it's hard to type. My comments are limited to LOVED this chapter! She is a hoot. And I'm happy for "the kid," and the other kids, too.

Hi Keika!

It took me a moment to remember who everyone was and where we were at in terms of story, but I got back into the swing of things pretty quickly :) I am going to have to go back and reread the rules for transitioning between classes, though.

All the kids are cute! I'm glad Darion's not too bothered about losing out to his best friend in terms of royalty, and that he has a crush of his own! Also, Lira is adorable! And such a cute name, too!

I enjoyed seeing more from Clitheroe! Hope to see more soon! :)

Yaaaay new chapter! :D
Loved it! :D The flower shop looks absolutely amazing - that garden is so beautiful!
I hope Darion and Shannath get together, they would make a cool couple. Plus, like Dienda, I'd love to see Imelda's reaction, ehehehe.
The girls are super cute, looking forward to seeing what they'll get up to when they're older.

Feeling better, so I can type more.

I just had to say:

I am pretty sure that Dienda will become a noble soon enough, and will probably beat Imelda to the 5 top businesses, because she has the advantage of snapdragons. And if Dienda becomes a noble, Imelda would soften to the marriage between "the kid" and Shannath. Barely. Like, once someone points out that if Shannath marries "the kid," then "the kid" will be uncle to the next queen, and his and Shannath's children would be ineligible to marry the next queen, which basically means that a marriage between Dienda's child and Imelda's child will put Dienda's grandchild out of the running for royalty for at least another generation, which would please Imelda, mightily.

Unless, of course, Keika has a mod to allow cousins to marry. It was very common, once upon a time. And actually, geneticists say that second cousins are no problem, at all, and first cousins are not problematic, as long as it's not too frequent.

With the ability for cousins to marry, Imelda will be unhappy. But she still "won" the crown for her own granddaughter, so she ought to be happy with that.

The problem is that Dienda has taken up the gauntlet. So long as she wasn't aware of the competition, there was no problem. Imelda was just being selfish and silly. Now that Dienda has taken offense... Well, who knows what might happen? At least she's not forbidding "the kid" from courting Shannath, or blaming the children for the crimes of the mother.

I do like Dienda very much.

The fact that she resents being subject to Imelda is going to spur her forward, a lot, and the fact that she's got snapdragons, tents, and the bendy-time of community lots means that she is going to become a noble, as soon as she possibly can, and quite probably by the end of next week. It won't change who marries whom, of course, but it will make her Imelda's social equal.

How many noble slots are there to fill? Could we see a Fisher family? I forget the name... Anyway, I think that would be hilarious. Nobody even notices her, but she's such a hard worker, she could do it. Probably be an old woman and have to adopt, by then.

Thanks for sticking with me through so many long breaks, you guys!

Thanks!! Sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel, and I am flattered that you felt it important enough to come back and post a longer comment when you felt better! :)

Wow, you really put some thought into the politics gearing up around here! And you pretty much hit every nail on the head. ;) I'm not sure if I'm going to let my sims partake in incest or not... I started out with the vague idea that I may allow it, but I dunno. *shrug* It might be difficult to work around next generation, for the reasons you very well outlined, but maybe someone'll be ambitious and relieve that cousins-marrying-cousins issue. *shrug again*

There's a max of three families available for now. The Renaisses are looking good to take the next slot just because they're already merchants and Dienda's got the fire lit under her to not be subject to Imelda anymore, but you never know. Evalyn ne Maeve is the fisherman (fisherwoman?), and you're right, she is hard-working enough for it, so she's got a shot. I dunno who's gonna end up in the third slot. *shrug shrug shrug*

Was that noncommittal enough? ;) Thanks for reading and commenting, Michelle! :D

Hi, Sam!
Yeah, I was worried about that. I seem to take these three-month hiatuses every round, too, which isn't great. :P Glad it was memorable enough to jolt the memory, though!

Class transitioning is actually pretty simple--one top level business to become merchants, five to become noble. Nobles can't become royals without totally taking over the current royal family, whether by murder or marriage. Only three noble families, five merchant families, and one royal family at any given time. That's about it in a nutshell. ^^

Thanks on all fronts! I'm planning on releasing the next chapter next week, about the same time! :)

Thanks! It's a just a little gaudy, I think, but that's sort of what I was going for! ^^ Glad you like it!!

Oh, those two are meant for each other. What I haven't shown in-canon yet is all of their autonomous backrubs and interactions, and they're not even "together" yet. ^^

Thanks for coming over to read, Anne! :)

I love Dienda's laid-back narrative
except when it comes to her growing (and perfectly understandable) rivalry with Imelda, of course!
Love watching the households' businesses and residences become progressively more lushly kingdomy, you are definitely one of my favorite builders!
Cute kids despite Howie's genetics getting the short end of the stick. I relish the potential for drama as much as Dienda when watching Clitheroe's kids interact with each other!
Lots to love, loving everything about Clitheroe!

Great update!
Dienda has a great voice, very unique. I love how she refers to her son as "the kid".
Re Michelle's comment that Imelda might be in favor of Darion marrying Shannath because then the Renaisses couldn't marry into the royal family: it just means Darion's kids wouldn't be able to marry the princess's kids. Kiya or Lira could still have sons who could compete for the hand of the next princess.
It is cool that Dienda's got that fire lit to work herself up to noble, so that she's not subject to Imelda anymore.

I have to say, I just read the prologue, and I'm already laughing.

When it comes to round 3:
I love the new architecture, and the constant interjections from Queen Keika in her peasants' journals are hilarious.

Not really very spoiler-worthy, I know, but the royal matchmaking is going to commence in a couple rounds, I'm sure. :)

And catching up to round 5:

Imelda amuses me greatly, as does our budding rivalry. We're going to have competing noble houses so fast... Also, hello Plot! Nice to meet you, I'm sure that you won't cause problems in the future. (Yeah, I give it, at best, a round after the crown passes to Andi before something disastrous happens with the other gods. And that's pushing it.)

Can't wait to see the next round!
