My game has decided that it cannot function beyond the loading screen after selecting a town. I was playing fine last night but today it's not having any of it. Any advice or has anyone else experienced this? I have no mods or CC whatsoever and haven't changed anything since it was working fine.

Feel like it may be important to say that I no longer have the original disks - my boyfriend copied the game from my old laptop before I sold it after realising the disks were gone but this was well over a year ago and have experienced no problems up until now. Just thought I'd add as I'm not sure how easy it would be for me to reinstall now

Hmm, it might be possible to reinstall from Origin... But yeah.... Always... ALWAYS keep your game disks... I know sims 2 is effectively a free download from origin [afaik for me that is..] it might be similar for sims 3 at a lower price..
