Chapter 1.0 - Introducing
Every one hundred years a couple is chosen. This couple is taken one from the land and one from the Sea. This union guarantees continued peace between the two worlds. This is truth and has been truth for as long as time itself. Evil still existed in both worlds. To combat the evil, good must be produced. Twelve girls and twelve boys would be born to this chosen couple. They would do everything in their strength to groom them for good. It was a giant undertaking for this one couple to do. A 'gift' was given to ensure that they succeeded. Life extensions would be granted but only if absolutely necessary. They had to prove themselves first before the first dose would even be given.

This century the couple chosen, one from the sea and one from the land, were optimistic. Let us meet them.

Kayden & Shayla Seaweed
ImageImage
Married in a ceremony conducted by the Council of Elders in the island cave, they were given the large plot of land near the cave to fulfill their honored task. A tiny cabin was built for them to begin.
Image
Image
After Kaden took a land job as a Painter the couple began their 'task'.
Image
Image
Testing the success of their first union gave great results!
Image

Kaden worked hard to provide simoleons for the family since the Elders made it very clear that no monetary help would be given. Shayla was not permitted to work but she could contribute in other ways to help.
Image
Image
Image
Life on land tended to dry out the merpeople. Every so often Kayden would enjoy the sea for a time before he had to get back to 'work'.
Image

As the days and months passed, they worked hard to prepare the home for their first child. They were excited to meet him or her for the first time.

Chapter 2.0 - The First Lie
Warning:
Spoiler:
This chapter subject may be disturbing to some readers. [Baby Abduction]
Despite getting his very first promotion at work, Kaden was having a difficult time being without the sea. It called to him strongly and it was hard to resist its pull. It made him sad.
Image
Image
Image
Empathy for his condition was shown and to reward him for doing well at work, Kaden was told by the elders to go for a long swim. They would watch his very pregnant wife while he was gone. She would be protected. He was delighted, thanked the Elders, kissed his wife and headed off. "Only for a few hours. He would be back soon."
Image
True to their word, the Elders 'watched' his wife while he was gone. What they did not tell them was that they were being watched far more often then they revealed. The statue of honor to bring a visual symbol of their task to their home was hollow. It wasn't always empty. Did its head move just a little when Kaden left to go swimming?
Image
Image
The Elders knew something the young couple did not know. They knew the signs. Shayla would birth that very night. And right on schedule, it began. Being alone without Kaden was scary but she was strong. She knew what to do.
Image
Image
The labor was not nearly as long as she thought it would be. Her own mother had taken many hours to birth her. Difficult it still was, but the true hardship was yet to come. Shayla cared for not one but two babies and set them down to sleep. Kissing their little heads in sleep.
Image
Exhausted by eager to share them with Kayden, Shayla left the home and went to the water's edge to wait for him.
Image
She was not gone long. She would be able to hear their little cries if they needed her. She felt confident as she wasn't very far away. She was wrong. She heard nothing. Not seeing Kayden yet, she felt a keen urge to return to her babies. Something did not feel right. When she got to where their cribs were. She grabbed her belly and broke down into an anguished cry. They were gone!
Image
Kaden heard her cry and hurried home. He had almost been back to shore at that time anyway. When he learned what had taken place, he became very much afraid. His children he'd never seen were gone.
Image
What had the Elders not told them? They knew it had been their hand at work. Not only were their babies gone. Gone too was the 'guardian' statue of honor.
Image
Why had the Elders stolen their children?! Would they ever be returned? The Elders told them that they would be kept safe. Why had they lied?

Spoiler:
Disclaimer: No child was actually harmed or taken during this story. :)
Bridget & Bryce [girl & boy twins]
They will be my Bad Apples according to the rules and will be played ISBI style. They will be lovingly cared for. Will the elders ever return them? I'm not telling. :smirk:

Chapter 3.0 - The Firstborns' Fate

The council did not steal the twins. They needed to take the firstborn female and firstborn male to the cave immediately after birth to ensure their proper place. They brought the babies back and explained to the panicked parents what must take place and why they were taken at all.

"We are the island's 24 Elders. We are the favored children from last century's chosen couple. We needed to give these little ones a thorough health check and decide which of us they would be heirs for. For when we pass, they will take our places. We had to do this immediately and Shayla, you were 'not seen' when we came. Since the babies were alone this is the judgement we have passed... These firstborn babies are returned to you. But hear this. They will left to fend for themselves. You will train them and set food out for them to take as they need it. But under no reason shall you control either one. Perhaps this will teach you their preciousness to the Island. Don't leave any your kids alone for a second. They are our future."

Thus the parents rejoiced that their babies have been returned. Obedient to the elders they began to teach them the best they could. They never left them alone at home again.
