I also prefer the variety of board games outside of chess, was just curious. I personally haven't played a ticket to ride (may randomly find a reason to get) but since March I've had a longing to buy the game Pandemic one of my favorite co-op board games.

Pandemic is a fun game. Only played it once, but really enjoyed it. Right now boyfriend and I are playing (off and on) Gloomhaven, but it wouldn't really work for a picnic. Maybe a good card game would be better.
