From the Hart: A Differences in the Family Tree Story (Ch. 11 & 12) *7/13*

Post by Nyx »

From the Hart: A DitFT Story
Welcome to my new story. :) Here is a little more info. This story follows the Differences in the Family Tree challenge rules, which you can read about here. Basically the gist is that each generation focuses on a different aspect of the game and thus differences between the generations are born.

I decided to put my own twist on the story by having it be decades-themed, starting with the 1920s. That means by the time the 15th generation heir is born we'll actually be in the future! To go along with the theme the story will reflect some of the themes and attitudes of each decade, and I'll be using period-appropriate names, hairstyles, clothes, furniture, etc. as much as possible.

The story will start out as a strict patriarchy with the oldest son being named heir. However, starting in the 70s decade this will change to becoming equality with any child having equal chance of being the heir. This reflects real-life changes in attitudes toward women and women's rights. :)

Finally, this story will somewhat be plotted but mostly based on what my sims do in game. I plan on writing from the heir's point-of-view most of the time but may switch to other sims' perspectives occasionally too.

Spoiler:
I like Henry's first person narrative, it flows very naturally. And I find it interesting that each generation represents a decade. :)

This is definitely enjoyable so far; I like historical legacies. And I think you've done well giving Henry a distinct voice. I'll be keeping up with this story. ^^

Thank you! I'm trying to stick to the historical theme as much as possible, but it won't be 100% of course. :)

Spoiler:
Henry and Elaine are quite a sweet couple. :)
I have to say, Elaine's father has terrible timing, springing the news when his daughter is in labor!
Oh dear, they've hit a rough patch, it seems, although that's often the case when the first generation arrives. I hope their financial situation gets better; maybe it'll get a bit easier when the kids can take better care of themselves. On a related note, I hope Henry doesn't have such a run of bad luck with the plumbing in the future, jeez!
Enjoyed the update; will be anticipating more.

Thank you very much! First gen is tough for sure, and I hate when everything breaks. :(

Awwwwn what a cute little family! Was Samuel really a surprise for everyone? lol I can't wait to see how he's gonna look, I loooove seeing genetics in play in these ganes, specially after Jamie and his random blond hair

I hope Henry doesn't take too hard when Jamie decides to change paths!

Heh, he wasn't a surprise for me and my twitchy try for baby finger XD I know, one of my favorite parts of the game is genetics, which is why I was excited by Elaine, because she has such interesting features!
Two more updates. We switch to James' POV!

Just caught up with this! Love the narrative style. :)
Spoiler:
Elaine makes some beautiful children. I really like the personality you've given to both of your POV Sims so far. It's subtle but there's a difference in their narrative voices. :)

Is the next generation the 1930s then? It'll be interesting to see how the business generation deals with the Great Depression!

Spoiler:
it's great to have James narrating now! Nice to finally see What's inside our heir's head. It's a shame when parents are so deadset on their kid's futures to be what they want, but so it's life and so it's this challenge! I'm really loving the whole story.
Betty and Arthur make a very cute couple, I hope James has luck meeting the woman of her dreams too!

Thank you! Yes, she has very interesting genetics. I've played super far ahead already, and let's just say her grandchildren are even cuter! And there are some throwback genes as well.

Hmm, I wasn't planning on writing that into the story, but you may have inspired me to do something with that, haha!

Yes, it's refreshing to have a different perspective! The founder of this challenge can always be a bit deadset in their ways so it was nice to switch to something else. And I've played far ahead already so I'll just say things get interesting in that area haha
New update!
